Briga at Tower of Song

What an gorgeous gig at Tower of Song on Sunday night. Briga is an artist I met long ago in Montreal, playing violin for the amazing Amanda Mabro. It was so nice to be able to welcome her to Birmingham to play at our little venue and she is an astounding performer. Recipient of the Stingray Rising Star Award, and nominee at the Canadian Folk Music Awards Québec’s ADISQ awards, and the Juno Awards her songs are half instrumental, half written in French and English, of which all are accompanied by her fervent violin firmly rooted in eastern European and Romani folk sounds learned from the days her father played the piano to put the children to sleep. Accompanied by brilliant double bass player Bradley Blackwell who according to Briga learned the set effortlessly! Considering the complicated nature of the set, that’s pretty amazing!
