So I’ve finally made some time to get all the liner notes written up and the little extras for my new covers album! I’m so proud of this record…it’s exactly what you’d hear if I was playing in your living room, but with some little extras thrown in with lots of stacked vocal harmonies and a fantastic bas/voice duo with Steve Lawson. I’m so pleased to get to put my own spin on these tunes and to reinvent such fantastic songs…songs that are all near and dear to my heart. My only regret is that I didn’t get to have any guest musicians on the record (with the exception of Steve on one track) but I’m planning on doing a second covers album in the future though…chock full of my favourite musicians! I might even post a list of songs and let everyone vote on the ones that I cover. Still thinking about that one. Anyway, hit play, and you can hear Volume 1, and download it if you wish!

Beautifully Undone (Songs I Wish I’d Written) by Lobelia

For some of you, you may not know quite a few of the songs on this record. I decided that this time around I was going to do songs that mean something to me personally….and I hope that if you don’t know the song it will prompt you to go and investigate the original. There are links to youtube videos of all the songs in the liner notes on bandcamp. In a way this might make it seem more like an album of new material from me. Either way, I get to record and perform the songs I love, and hopefully you will grow to love them as much as I do! I’ve had to set a minimum on this album just to cover the cost of licensing all the songs. Whilst Limelight has made licensing so much easier…it’s still pricey so the minimum is just to help cover these costs. The initial release will be digital, but I am printing up some copies for Greenbelt…so if you’re a die-hard shiny coaster fan…there will be a 200 physical copy release in August.

For the curious, here’s who did the songs originally:

Beautifully Undone: Lindy
Junk: Paul McCartney
It’s a Shame About Ray: The Lemonheads
Moon River: Henri Mancini
Consider Me Gone: Sting
Toledo: The Blue Nile
You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) : Dead or Alive
Beautiful: Rob Szabo
God Loves Everyone: Ron Sexsmith

There’s lots of extra info about each song on bandcamp along with links back to the original artists so go and have a look! As always, thanks for listening! xoxoxo Lo.

Hi there Lovelies! It’s been a while and I am trying desperately to get back on track with blogging as there is tonnes and tonnes of amazing stuff going on of late! Firstly with the help of my lovely friends Emma and Donna..we were able to get the Song for Donna compilation up and running and what an AMAZING bunch of songs to be had, all for $5CAD (on a pay what you think it’s worth) scale. Please download a copy, you audiophiles can get everything up to FLAC for cheaps and you’re doing something good for someone exceedingly lovely and brave. This is a case of helping someone out who helps themselves. She’s already taken the initiative to travel to Costa Rica and then America to have treatment for her MS, and now she’s struggling under the weight of the costs. Your money will help her stay out of a care facility as long as possible and have time to rest and heal. She can do that much better at home than in a facility away from her beloved kitties Pita and Pepper. You can find the comp here….Songs for Donna on Bandcamp

Next in line is my new covers album!!! Finally! I am almost finished with it and it’s turning out to be a humdinger let me me tell you!!! I’m covering songs by Ron Sexsmith, Rob Szabo, Paul McCartney, The Lemonheads, Sixpence None the Richer, Henri Mancini, and many more!!! I am very pleased with the sound of this record…it’s stark and lovely and just like something you’d hear at one of my shows. I hope you love it too! I’ll let you all know when it’s ready for downloading. We’re also doing a deal on memory sticks…Steve and my entire back catalog along with video, Steve’s book, and both of our new albums for £25.
Hi there! It’s been a long long long long time since I posted on this blog. There’s lots of reasons I could give…one being the little man that I gave birth to in Nov. 09, another was me thinking that I could could stop taking my meeds and still function. I started to wonder when I could no longer focus my eyes or think straight though a very very foggy brain. I hadn’t realized over the last 14 months how affected I was until I started feeling better. So now that I am, it’s time to get onto more important things! Let’s talk about my lovely friend Donna DeLorme!

Donna was diagnosed with MS in 1996, after a few bouts with optic neuritis. She was told that her MS was relapsing-remitting and that she would not likely have many problems. This wasn’t to be so, and just two years later she started having tingling and numbness in her right hand, a foot that dragged when she was tired, and blurred vision. As with anyone with a busy life, (I’ve been guilty of this for the entirety of my life so far) she ignored her body and symptoms and continued to work, even taking a very stressful job ’99. Within two weeks, she was blind in one eye, could barely walk and could not move the right side of her body.

Donna is one of the bravest people I know. She managed to keep her independence for many years by setting up a business and working from home. She eschewed the MS injections as they were not helping and making her feel horribly ill. She’s managed all this time with supplements and exercises, diet modifications and lots and lots of water…but unfortunately MS has her firmly in it’s grip and last year after quite a long stint in a care facility, she truly thought that she wouldn’t be able to come home again and would have to give up her beloved kittehs, Pita and Pepper. I’m sure it was through sheer force of will that Donna did come home, she managed to get things sorted with the help of friends and family and move into an apartment better suited to her needs and arrange just enough home care to get by.

Last July Donna went to Costa Rica to undergo Angioplasty treatment (read about CCSVI here) but was under-treated according to her latest diagnostics. Angioplasty for CCSVI is a hot topic, and is quite controversial, and many countries, including Canada do not allow the procedure. Here in Britain, the first treatments were done at a private clinic in Ediburgh in October of last year. So though you can have the procedure in the UK, it is not something available under the NHS.

We all had such great hopes for her treatment in Costa Rica, and to anyone who knows Donna, just the dramatic change in the way she looked after treatment was enough to make us believers. Unfortunately, her symptoms didn’t improve enough to give her the life-changing results that we were all hoping for. She needs further treatment and perhaps stents to keep the veins open and the blood flowing and that means a second treatment in America. Family and a few friends paid for the last procedure, and cannot afford to do so a second time.

Here’s where you come in! This is your chance to make a real change in the life of someone wonderful….someone who is a huge supporter of great music, a fighter, a lover, a loyal friend, someone who doesn’t take life for granted. So many of us never think about getting out of bed in the morning, being able to take ourselves to the bathroom, or make ourselves and our loved ones a meal. I can’t imagine not being able to reach out an pick up my son, to throw him up in the air while he squeals with delight…so many things
that I do without thinking on a day to day basis that are a struggle or just plain impossible for Donna. we’re putting together a wonderful compilation of great music…songs donated by some of the best musicians that can be found. All proceeds will go to help pay for Donna’s procedure. In the meantime, read her story, peruse her blog, and give a little something to help her out. Just a quid if you’ve not got much…believe me, it’ll help. We’ll let you know when we get the comp underway! Thanks for listening and for your help! Much love, Lo.

My goodness, I have NOT been a good blogger since Baby Flapjack was born! Whilst you would have thought that a lot of our music would have suffered after having a baby…we managed to do a tour and record a new live album in the process! We played with some of my favourite musicians…such as Todd Reynolds and Neil Alexander and the whole experience of touring with a baby was amazing and difficult and humbling all at the same time. We realised how lucky we are to have a baby who thrives on new people and new situations, and how the help of wonderful friends along they way is indispensable. So please check out Live So Far and Steve’s posting on it is here. It’s pay what you want, or rather what you think it’s worth…and no matter what, we just want you to have a copy of it! Also there is a BEAUTIFUL live video, shot by Brian Wilson using 2 Canon 5D Mark 2′s and and another fixed camera.
