November 17th! Lobelia’s Lazy Sundays Featuring Kim Lowings and the Greenwood!

There aren’t too many performers that when you hear them for the first time at an open mic night, you find yourself having to remember to breathe…but Kim Lowings is one of those talents. The first time I saw her perform, she was singing a capella, and I was truly transported. For one so young she has a rare and beautiful talent; that something- something with certain artists that we can’t quite put our fingers on. A beauty of spirit that transcends in her lovely songs. So you can imagine my excitement at hosting her and her lovely band in the next instalment of my Lazy Sundays gigs at my favourite venue in the world…Tower of Song! Yvonne Lyon October 20th!

Yay! The next instalment of my Lazy Sundays Songwriter Series will be the amazing Yvonne Lyon! We are so lucky to be able to host her on her UK tour performing and promoting her perfect new album These Small Rebellions!

If you haven’t heard her before, “singer/songwriter Yvonne Lyon is among the best and brightest talent currently emerging from Scotland. Her new album, More Than Mine combines poignant lyrics with strong, creative melodies demonstrating a voice that can be both fragile and intense. She has consistently drawn and stirred crowds across the UK with her emotive performances.

Yvonne has shared the stage with the likes of Patti Griffin, Karine Polwart, Luka Bloom, Steve Forbert and toured the UK with Juliet Turner.

Most recently Yvonne secured a position on BBC Radio Scotland’s playlist with her new single The Coffee Song as well as being nominated songwriter of the the week.

3rd Lazy Sunday Gig Announced!

On August 11th, I’m proud to announce that our Lazy Sunday artists will be The Black Feathers! We are so lucky to get them as they have quite a heavy touring schedule for the next few months. For those of you who haven’t heard them yet, they mix English Folk, Irish influences and bluegrass to create a beautiful sound of two voices and guitar that is reminiscent of The Civil Wars. I first heard them at the Rea River Roots night at Tower of Song and was blown away. Come and see them in a small listening venue while you still can! See you there! xo

Lobelia’s Lazy Sunday w/ Louise Petit and New EP

lazysunday2 copyYAY! It’s finally here! Tonight is the 2nd instalment in my songwriter series at Tower of Song in Cotteridge! It’s going to be amazing….featuring stunning talent Louise Petit and her wonderful band. Also, I’ve been rehearsing for an all keys set for myself, so I’m excited to play something different. As a matter of fact, I have recorded 5 songs from my set list, and they will be available tonight at the show as well as a download on bandcamp at midnight tonight! There’s a couple of new songs, some reinvented ones, and another obscure cover. Enjoy!

The first of my songwriter sessions at Tower of Song could not have gone better. Thanks to all of you who attended, tweeted, retweeted, shared, and listened. I hope to see all of you and more at the next one.  The gig was reviewed by Three Chords and the Truth UK and he’s written a lovely blog post which you can read here or in Fatea Records Magazine. We also featured in the day of one of my favourite people on earth, Andrew Dubber. Here’s the post and don’t forget to peruse some of his other work as well!

Emily and Fiddes were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. What a way to start a series! One of those perfect nights that will stick with me forever.

So don’t forget that we have Birmingham’s own Louise Petit at the next show on June 23! Mark it in your diaries! It’s going to be another brilliant night! x
